“CBF is not a big organization.” This is a true statement when we consider its size and years of existence. However, when we think about the amplitude and significance of its programs, ministries, and their impact; the fellowship is immense. Perhaps that's why I personally didn't know about Oasis until I received an invitation to be one of the speakers alongside Reverend Timothy Peoples.

I confess; among friends; I arrived to Oasis on Montreat Center in North Carolina terrified and intimidated. Oasis exists to create a space for encounter, rest, renewal, learning, and spiritual growth for ministers and leaders of children, youth, and young adults ministries. In case you don't know; serving these populations is a special calling that requires specific and, in my humble opinion, advanced skills. Preaching to this marvelous group of people was both an honor and a challenge.

The theme that occupied us throughout the week was “Rooted,” and after having been there, I can say that Oasis is something else entirely. What is Oasis?

  • Oasis is a unique space for committed people.

  • Oasis is an opportunity to rest and disconnect, to connect with what nourishes the soul; nature, friends, and the Spirit.

  • Oasis is a scenification where beautiful liturgies, rich symbolism and imagery, create sacred spaces and lead participants to moments of sacred encounter and revelation.

  • Oasis is the intention and effort of a wonderful group of leaders who attend to every detail to facilitate an unforgettable experience.

  • Oasis is what you should experience in 2028 if your calling is to be an instrument of God for the most important of generations.
